HP Canon question [Jan. 14th, 2014|04:37 am]

So, I wondered if anyone here knows to what extent Dumbledore/Grindelwald is "canon."

In canon-canon -- like actual what-it-says-in-the-book canon, there is nothing that states or explicitly implies that Dumbledore is gay (or was involved or in love with Gellert.) From canon, we do know that they were friends and Dumbledore was fascinated with Gellert (although, not explicitly in any way which wasn't platonic). In an interview, JKR says that Dumbledore is gay (thus making de facto canon because that's how HP fandom functions).

What I want to know is: did JKR ever say that Dumbledore was "in love" with Gellert or they had something going on or is that just fandom putting 2 and 2 together as always?

If I recall correctly, she said he "had romantic feelings for Grindelwald", but didn't ever say if they were reciprocated.

Thanks :)
I don't really follow JKR's interviews or anything. Most of what I know about non-book canon comes from wikis and Lexicon and stuff lol.

The word "love" is definitely uttered by Dumbledore when he talks with Harry in King's Cross at the end of DH, and it refers to that. I consider what JKR did with the books!canon to be severe queerbaiting bec indeed there was no way to be actually sure 100% that Dumby was not straight, but I'm not going to deny queer!Dumby a canon status either.
