what do people in fandom do in RL "for a living"? [Jun. 5th, 2014|10:17 pm]

I've always loved fandom stats and observations and analysis of fandom stats. But the one thing that I'd like to know, which doesn't really fit into the sort of studies that tend to be done about fandom is: what types of jobs do people in fandom hold? Do they have jobs (as opposed to being stay-at-home spouses/parents, for example)? A lot of fandom seems to be younger - lots of college students. And I'm wondering if this is an effect of just younger people being...IDK, more into gushing about imaginary people and events or is it because those who are older simply have no time to do so consistently? And if so, is this because of family or just working sucking up all the joy in life free time? But then, there are plenty non-college/grad students in fandom and I wonder what sort of things these people do "for a living". (From my experience, these are often either people who don't work for some reason or are teachers....but my experience is limited.)

Students, stay-at-home mums, professors/teachers/academics, and a boatload of lawyers.

Lol. I don't actually think I know any lawyers in fandom...well, no there is at least one I know of, but that's about it.
