Game of Thrones [Feb. 4th, 2012|11:45 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

Sooooo…because sometimes when people are talking about something and I see it around a lot…I often want to know what the hell are people going on and on about. This is how I got into LOST and Merlin. Now, this is how I’m getting into Game of Thrones. I’ve watched through episode 6. No, I haven’t read Song of Ice and Fire on which the series is based and I’m not sure if I will. Although…IDK, maybe. If I get wayyyy too impatient or something about what is happening next.

So far characters I like:
Ned Stark. He’s just a good guy all around, I guess. Robert isn’t REALLY a bad guy or anything but he’s too much of a doofus and likes “killing things” a little too much for my taste.
Tyrion. The Imp is just a likeable dude, I can’t help it.
Bran Start. Just because it’s impossible to not like such an adorable child.
Jaime. Yea, I KNOW <_< It’s really bad too, because it’s like…he’s got the whole cute thing going for him as well. Yea, IDK, I can’t help it, he’s just not enough of a cunt, he’s got that whole “grey area” thing going for him…

Arya is likeable, as is Jon Snow. But I don’t really have the fondness for them as I do for the above characters. Or, I guess in Jamie’s case, not the same level of interest/attraction? Daenerys is cool I guess, much more likeable that her hysterical brother. Does anyone know the name of the slave girl who taught her about sex? *cough*femslashvibes*cough* I must mention Jorah here too. He so totally has a thing for Daenerys.

I’ve spoiled myself up through the end of season 1, mostly while trying to figure out all the characters and how they were interconnected and using the wiki version of sparknotes for this purpose :p However, I don’t know what happens after this and I don’t think I want to know, especially since I’m taking GoT separately, as a fandom, separate from A Song of Ice and Fire. I know the show follows the book very closely, or so I’ve heard, but still. It’s just better this way, and stifles my impatience a little.

The only thing that bothers me about the show is the amount of gore. I don’t know if it’s enough to warrant an R rating per se, but I don’t like it. I have to look away and/ot turn off the sound from time to time. It’s not enough to turn me off the show though :)

ETA: Doreah, that's the slave girl's name :)

I have opinions, let me show you them

ahahaha I wish I'd seen this sooner since I'm reading my way through the books (they are so long and take forever when you're supposed to be reading for class) and I would love to talk GoT with someone who hasn't read the books and has to tiptoe around inadvertently spoiling me because this is not a series I will condone spoilers for because holy shit all the things that happen.

I assume by now you've finished the first season, haha, since the second one starts in like two weeks. I'll try not to spoil any book stuff for you, though!

1. I liked Ned Stark. He was a good man. Far too honorable for King's Landing, though.
2. It is literally impossible to NOT like Tyrion. He is the best, and Peter Dinklage is an amazing actor.
3. NOPE BRAN STARK IS ONE OF MY LEAST FAVORITE. Aaaaaaah so terrible. I think my total disdain for him comes from the books, though. We'll see what happens in season two.
4. The problem with Jaime is, every time I start to like him, he does something creepy and incestuous. I think he's great -- he's a complete ass, but he does it in such a way that he's great. Plus, he's an awesome brother to Tyrion. I want a series where Jaime and Tyrion go on bro-adventures, without any of the incest or murder.
5. Arya is the other best, alongside Tyrion.
6. Jon Snow is great when he stops whining about being a bastard. One of my friends absolutely hates him, though, so YMMV?
7. I cannot say ANYTHING about my feelings of Dany without spoiling, like, half the third book and possibly some of the second (the plots tend to run together). Good lord. But she is all about "no strings attached" femmeslash. Also, ugh Jorah Mormont.
8. I also want a series where Robb Stark and Jon Snow go off and do bro stuff. Like a GoT prequel spinoff or something.

I personally quite like Renly and Ser Loras, and a few other dudes (and ladies) that get introduced in the upcoming season.

The gore is only going to get worse, just a warning. It's totally enough to warrant an R rating.

Re: I have opinions, let me show you them

Yea, I'm trying to avoid anymore spoilers at least as far as actively going out and looking for them goes. I already spoiled myself about Jaime, but everyone who's not closely connected to him, not so much. I'm thinking I'll watch season 2 and then start going through the books starting with book 3. How many of the books have you finished so far? 3 or more?

I think I like Bran because there's nothing very annoying about him in the show.

Jaime's amazing. The incest bothers me less than all the gore, lol, so... Thanks for the warning, btw, I'll just kinda...deal with it I guess xD
And, OMG, Jaime and Tyrion brotherly gen is SO awesome.

Jon Snow does have a bit of an emo side bus as long as that side doesn't develop too much I think he'll be ok :)

Somehow...I'm not very fond of Rob.
