I need to stop stressing about the Olympics but it seems that that's impossible. Maybe it would be easier if I was around other people who were cheering for the US as well. Instead, I'm surrounded by people cheering for Russia. (My brother's loyalties seem to be divided but he's not very interested wither way it seems.) Also, since I'm currently in Russia the tv coverage is Russian and Russian commentators tend to be utterly horrible. They have a tendency to be mean, nasty, whiny, enjoy playing the victim and they seem to experience a special joy when it's the US that gets beaten. Not that I expected any better -- Russian attitudes in everyday life are very similar, honestly. Usually, it's just funny how much they seem to blow up the whole "America is our enemy" thing when no one in the US really cares about them THAT MUCH. They like to think that they're the center of the earth and everyone's likes and dislikes, plans, goals, intrigues etc revolve around them. Anyway. Usually, it's almost funny. Right now, it's annoying. I guess I just need to stop caring so much - it's just sports not the end of the world for goodness sake.
We did well in swimming but our male gymnasts fell through and things aren't looking too wonderful on the track and field front either (although it's a bit early to tell). Now it looks like we're going to lose the poll vault to the Russians. I want to go have tea but they've got the Olympics on in the kitchen and I don't want to hear the gloating. I can't stand it.
Come on Team USA pull it together for God's sake! I can stand us losing the overall/gold medal count to the Chinese. I think I'll cry if we lose to the Russians.
